State Recipes from the Living Well Book
VermontSugar on SnowIntroduced to early settlers by Native Americans, Maple Sugaring and Sugar on Snow parties have been a spring tradition in Vermont for centuries. Vermont is the largest producer of maple syrup in the United States. The climate is ideal for growing sugar maple trees and for good sap flow. Forty years are required to grow a maple tree large enough to tap and it takes 40 gallons of sap to make one gallon of syrup. |
